Okay, it’s time for me to admit it! I’ve been converted!
I’ve always believed in the importance of paying the money for a good wedding photographer (if not a great one). After all, as I say to many of my clients, your wedding photos are what you will have left AFTER the wedding is over. One or more of those picture will be displayed prominently in your home and you will want the memories and feelings of your wedding day to come back to you every time you look at it. They will be the photos that your children and even your grandchildren might take for show-and-tell. You want great wedding photography that will be timeless and evoke emotion, not just for you, but for everyone that was part of your important day. These have always been, and will continue to be, great arguments on why couples should invest the money on photography.
Now, however, I’ve also started to share with my couples how important it is to invest in wedding videography as well. I’ll be the first to admit that I wasn’t always a big fan. I didn’t find the old style of documentary films that appealing. When budgets were already being put to the test, I thought it was a lot of money to pay for something that would most likely sit on the shelf and collect dust. But the wedding video of ten years ago is not what we’re seeing from videographers now. When you see what really good videographers are producing, such as Snap Weddings or Confetti Wedding Films, you will understand why I’ve changed my tune!

The wedding videos of today, much like the photography, are works of art! They tell a story of the couple, sharing in the excitement and energy of the day. The highlight reels (often four or five minutes in length) capture the day and are fun to share and reminisce with guests. They are great to send out on Facebook or in an email, and something that people will enjoy watching time and time again. A longer “story” is put together in a twenty to thirty minute format, often with more highlights from the ceremony vows and the speeches. It is something that the couple and family members will actually enjoy sitting down to watch. I even know of couples who sit down together and watch the DVD on their wedding anniversary, as something to look forward to instead of dread.
Okay, so it’s true that the word “budget” keeps coming up again and again when planning a wedding, but as a wedding planner and designer, I have to say, if you can swing it, hire a great wedding photographer AND a great wedding videographer! You won't be sorry you did!
